Pavilion structure AELTC

Reading + West were commissioned to design a demountable pavilion building to be constructed on the roof of an existing building at The All England Lawn Tennis Club, Wimbledon. The roof form was inspired by origami and was designed to be synonymous with the pleated tennis apparel of the Championship. Designed as a folded plate, the roof structure is designed to span uninterrupted between the perimeter columns giving clear space and with no down stand beams. The underside of the roof is to be clad with birch faced plywood forming a sculptural self finished ceiling, that seemingly floats over the clerestorey perimeter glazing. The timber clad wall panels are designed as a system of modular bolt together panels that can be dissembled and stored below the roof structure before it is lowered onto the existing roof at the end of the Championship.
